Over the past few months the big shots at Wasafi Records have ratcheted up their music outputs. Between Diamond Platnumz and his proteges (the recently-departed Harmonize and Rayvanny), they’re almost releasing a surefire hit every week! On top of that, this year the Tanzanians have made concerted moves to conquer the Nigerian pop market. From putting their own spin to the popular naija sub-genre (“Baba Lao”) to tapping the local chart-toppers such as Burna Boy on “Kainama“, Phyno on “Slow“, or Teni on “Sound”. It’s a good place for this playlist to start as we bounce between Dar and Gidi; throw a few winks to Jamaica, Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa; and delight in sprinkle of American electro pop. Here goes nothing!
