Victoire est à nous

The 2018 edition of the World Cup has come to an end. And France has been crowned champions. For the second time in their history. The first time was twenty years ago and back then much ink was spilled on the French players’ origins — particularly those of African descent. Twenty years on and the team makeup still features a heavy African contingent who have been unabashed about their origins through social media, interviews and other platforms. We can debate our rightful pride in the success of our sons later. (I do have more capable partners to elaborate on the matter.) Right now, let’s rejoice along and relive the sounds that have provided a rhythm to the French team’s exploits. Félicitations Les Bleus !

Hewa Yasin

I wrote as kid. (I'd die if you'd ever get your hands on those poems.) And I wrote as a teen. (We thought our raps would spearhead revolution.) I write these days to share my joys and perspectives. I am as subjective as they come. I found a bunch of blessed souls that are just as expressive. And Africa is all the better for it. (I think I never really changed.)
